Ijuswanhim2spellcorect

Why does Musiq Soulchild spell everything crazy? The homegirls and I went to his concert at the EQC last weekend. Great performer, ok venue, yummy seafood buffet, and the always fabulous comp'd tickets made for fun times with the ladies. This is the second time I've seen Musiq perform, and I am never disappointed. Catchy dance tunes and lovey love songs. One thing that does distract me is how he always wears sunglasses. We came to a decision that it's because he has a wonky eye. So, I'm cool with the sunglasses now. I was trying to get a pic or two of him, but the EQC bouncers had that joint on LOCK-DOWN! It was hilarious! At one point, I thought it was cool to take a photo. But no. I started to snap away, when all of a sudden, security came running across a row of chairs in front of me and blocked my camera while he ran his hand across his throat to motion for me to stop! Where the heck did he come from? It was as if he fell from the sky. No matter, as soon as he left, I kept on with my paparazi ways!

The EQC isn't a bad place either...if you can get past all the smoke! I wish Tacoma would pass a law to make it illegal to smoke at a casino too! It was horrible. I had to come home and take 20 showers and disinfect my clothes!

So the ladies and I decided that:
1. We're too old for all that smoke.
2. We love comp'd tickets and seats upclose and personal.
3. VIP is always something that never gets old!
4. We're too old to dress with less and freeze! Been there, done that!

To pass the time (and because they are hard to ignore!) we captured some of our favorite outfits and couple combo outfits. This takes great precision and stealth-like motion! Ok, so not really. I just pretend I'm taking a picture of one of the girls (like I did with Paulette), and snap.

I love the couples that dress like twins. One day, I'm want to make the Pupu and I dress matchy, just so I can take a photo of it and laugh hysterically! I think velour sweatsuits or Gucci head-to-toe would be best!

Perez copied me.

I was doing my daily surfing of Perez Hilton, and I came across his Quinceañera (Part 2) birthday bash pictures! It took me back to my actual Quinceañera and my Double Quinceañera five years ago. Both, equally fabulous.

My first
Quinceañera was at the Port Orchard Yacht club. I wore such an 80's dress! It had to be white for the mini-wedding, but I wanted to mix it up. So it was a strapless, bubble skirt taffeta dress with the largest peach bow across the boobies! So classic. I can't believe that was 20 years ago!

For my Double Quinceañera we threw a big party at my parents casa. The DJ was stashed in the loft upstairs, my Juan and only Dad worked the carne asada OUT on the grill, and everyone had a great time eating, dancing and enjoying the fiesta. I don't think I looked as cute at that party, so no picture! But here's the front of the invitation I designed.

I feel like Rodney Dangerfield!

I registered to take a class at Clover Park today, which means I'm going...Back to School! It's just one class, but still. I'm going through the motions of registering, getting my parking pass, i.d. card etc, and I am so grateful that I did all this years (14 to be exact!) ago.

It should be an interesting class. I'm taking a HTML and Dreamweaver course. Not my favorite thing, but it must be done. I've already taken a Flash class, but sheesh...all that coding is HARD! What the heck does all that code mean anyways! My old, right-side dominant brain does not process that language.

Although, I do like that there aren't tons of books and notepads that I have to haul to and from class like I did back in the day. It's so wrong, but I really want this USB Flash drive! The Kitty and I have been friends since the 70's and I love how she's evolved with the times. She'll fit right in with all the lip gloss in my purse.

Glossified.

It's no secret. I'm ADDICTED to lip gloss. I almost had a meltdown when my new favorite gloss "35mm" went missing. I dumped the purse, ravaged the cubicle, started sweating, and finally found it. It's not like I don't have a backup tube! I do. But I didn't want to break the new one open.

Lipgloss and I have a longstanding relationship. My lips start quivering (and I know some of you are thinking about a particular trip to Vancouver here!) when they feel as if they are not fully glossed at all times. The pictures above are a pretty accurate inventory of what is in my purse at all times! I told you, I'm addicted.

Today he's a little Irish.

"Kiss me I'm Irish!" I told the Pupu that and he laughed. Who knows...maybe there's just a touch in my bloodline. You never know! If red hair denotes someone being Irish (and I know it doesn't!), then I am. Many of my Great Aunts had red hair and green eyes. If I don't process my own hair, the sun brings out the red highlights. And, the Pupu has one, just ONE, red hair in his mustache. And of course I have to kiss him...Irish or not!

Telenovelas and Reality TV

Ah. At last. You knew it was coming. I keep telling you, the Latinos (and our cultura) are taking over!

VH1 is launching yet another reality show, but this time the search is on for America's numero uno telenovela star! It's called ¡Viva Hollywood! The cast of aspiring Latino and Latina telenovela stars will move into the “Casa De Locos” where they must master the “7 Deadly Sins of Telenovelas”: passion, lust, charisma, drama, fire, seduction and scandal.

I gotta tell my Abuelito! He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES watching his favorite telenovelas, and the rest of his world is scheduled around the times they air. I can see him now. Sitting in his favorite chair, armed for a solid hour of hot, steamy overacting. ¡Ay Dios Mio!

Tacoma is not East LA.

In my quest to find cool Latina stuff on the web, I ran across "Somos Medicina". It's a visual and multi-media art exhibit highlighting women artists. Not only are pieces displayed, but poetry readings, live music, film night and more. I wonder what I would be like if I grew up in California instead of rural Washington? Would I be fluent in Spanish? Would I have 10 kids by now? Or would I basically be the same, but with a tan?

Crimes of passion are usually committed by a Latino.

"Soured romantic relationship a motive in Parkland killings. Ivette Gonzalez Davila had much in common with the woman she’s now suspected of killing: youth, beauty, service to country."

Crazy chica! That was the headline, and first sentence of the front-page story today.

The Pupu always says that whenever he sees a story about a "crime of passion" it usually involves a hot-headed, fiery Latina. Granted, we are usually pretty fiery and very passionate about most things in life. But I do wonder if the Latins are more inclined to committing a crime of passion? Whenever he points these type of stories out, I just give him a sly smile and say, "That's something to remember, isn't it?" Ha!

2008: The Year of the Latino.

I love that headline! Although, I've thought every year was the "Year of the Latino". My girlfriend Carol sent the crew and I this article from Diversity Inc. magazine to check out.

I'm not a big politico by any means, and I also haven't decided who I'm voting for. The only reason I even watch CNN, MSNBC or any other news channel is because of the Pupu. He even has BBC news programed into my DVR! How dare he! But because the news is always on when he's over, I've actually watched the debates, interviews and what people like Tim Russert have to say.

A lot of the article makes me laugh, because my family has always been BIG Republicans. I know...GASP! There has always been an assumption that if you are a minority, your are a Democrat. So not true. But who knows. Maybe this is the year those Garcia's swing to the other-side! I know I'm leaning that way.

¡VIVA LA RAZA!
I tell ya...the Latinos are takin' over!

The Sewing Expo and Migraines.

No, the two have no correlation. I actually had a great time at the Sewing Expo! I just happened to get a migraine that morning...that didn't leave until last night. Ouch! So many expensive Relpax migraine pills were ingested these last few days, and I'm finally exiting my Relpax-induced haze. Which is actually a fun place to be, as long as I'm at home and in bed!

I learned a lot at the Expo, and even found a great pattern for some pants my mom is going to make for me!

For awhile now I've been wanting to learn how to knit. I have 2 fabulous books, and now a huge spool of Pendleton wool that my mom bought me to practice with. Next step...I need to find a 'knitting for beginners' class.

I also came across a fun technique I want to try on some t-shirts. It's basically silk screening on fabric (like above), but I can come up with my own designs and make it funky! I want to overlap and layer designs. Can't wait to try!
